Artist Turns Old Watches Into Creepy Crawlies
Artist Justin Gershenson-Gates who is a son of a gearhead , and a grandson of a railroad man is exposed to mechanical things at early childhood. His life is filled with machinery that makes him passionate about tearing mechanical gadgets apart and making something new out of them. ‘As a child, I would take my toys apart in order to see how they worked, but was never able to put them back together again.’ he said.
As time passes Justin became a jeweler who grew tired of making jewelry. Since then He begun experimenting with some watch parts and created mechanical sculptures, and “A MECHANICAL MIND” was born. ‘Now, I take dead old watches from the top drawers of the world, disassemble and clean them, then rearrange their bits and widgets into whimsical designs.’ Justin said.
He is now a sculpture who turns recycled old watches into mechanical insects and arthropods. His works are extraordinarily beautiful that they look like little Decepticons from the movie “Transformers”. Who would thought that we can create something awesome from those old timepieces? Justin just proved that through creativity and innovation we can make something wonderful like his incredibly complex mechanical sculptures.
